Borussia were not among the founding members of the Bundesliga and before 1965 they were only a regional force in German football. After the Second World War, the club first played two seasons in the Landesliga and then, from 1949/50 onward, oscillated between the 2. Liga West and the Oberliga West, then the top division. What few people know: the club won its first title as early as 1920, when it became West German champion — not under today’s name, but as VfTuR München-Gladbach.
